How we earn trust
Editorial Standards
Accuracy and verification
Writers must verify names, quotations, measurements, locations and material claims. Practical guidance is checked against credible primary or specialist sources. Building, energy and safety requirements vary by jurisdiction; stories state their scope and direct readers to qualified professionals where appropriate.
Sources and expertise
We prefer primary sources such as legislation, standards bodies, public agencies, original research and direct interviews. We link to useful source material and identify relevant credentials. Anonymous sources are exceptional and require an editor to know the source’s identity and reason for anonymity.
Independence and conflicts
Editorial decisions belong to the editorial team. Contributors disclose financial, personal or professional relationships that could affect coverage. Gifts, travel, samples and access do not guarantee publication or favourable treatment.
Commerce, advertising and affiliates
Paid work is clearly labelled and visually distinguishable. Advertisers do not approve independent editorial conclusions. Affiliate relationships, if used, are disclosed near the relevant links. See the full Advertising & Sponsorship Policy.
Photography and visual integrity
Artificial intelligence
Automated tools may assist with transcription, organization, accessibility or exploratory research, but they do not replace reporting, verification or editorial accountability. We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, sources or experiences. Material AI assistance is disclosed when relevant to understanding the work.
Corrections and updates
Substantive errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Material updates include a note explaining what changed. Send a concern through our corrections page.
